Sawai Madhopur (Savāī Mādhōpur, səˈʋaːiː ˈmaːdʱoːpʊɾ) is a city in the south-eastern part of the Indian state of Rajasthan. It serves as the administrative headquarters of Sawai Madhopur district and is part of the Bharatpur division. Founded in 1763 by Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh I of erstwhile Jaipur state, the city is situated approximately 13 kilometres (8.1 mi) from Ranthambore National Park, one of India's best-known wildlife reserves. The city also serves as the principal gateway to Ranthambore Fort, one of the six Hill Forts of Rajasthan inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2013.
