Maharashtra’s (muh-HAH-rahsh-truh) history stretches across thousands of years, shaped by ancient trade routes, powerful empires, and a deep cultural heritage that still defines the region today. The earliest evidence of settlement comes from Stone Age communities and later from the Indus Valley Civilisation, whose influence extended into parts of present‑day Maharashtra.
