Govindgarh

The city was founded by Baghel Rajputs around 1400 AD and became the capital of the Rewa princely state in 1597. It also served as the capital of the British Baghelkhand Agency and later of Vindhya Pradesh from 1948 to 1956. Historically, Rewa has been an important trade route connecting regions like Kaushal, Prayag, Banaras, and Pataliputra to western and southern India. Rewa is known as the "Land of White Tigers" due to the discovery of the first white tiger in 1951 by Maharaja Martand Singh. In terms of economy and infrastructure, Rewa is developing rapidly as an industrial hub with significant contributions from companies like VTL, NCL, and Jaypee Cement. The city is home to the largest solar power plant in the world, enhancing its status as a major energy center. The establishment of the Bansagar Dam Project and its canal network is expected to further boost the region's economic prospects.
