   Data from NOAA (1981-2010) }} Barstow is in the desert. Barstow has always been a transportation hub, dating back to the days of the Mojave Road. By the late 19th century, the Santa Fe Railroad came to town, which was named for Santa Fe executive William Barstow Strong. By the 1920s, Route 66, Route 91 and Route 466 intersected in the town.
